Discover More About Park&Gardens

In Skegness you will discover the Tower Gardens a beautiful scenic park with trees, playing fields and pond. There is a kiddies play area and a small assault course for the older kids. Provided they are kept on a lead, dogs are welcome in the Park. The Gardens stage many events and activities throughout the year and make good use of the.Band Stand.

Also in Skegness is the Compass Gardens home to the statue of the very famous Jolly Fisherman. The Gardens are a riot of colour with a thoughtfully laid out walkway to observe the many plants and flowers with plenty of seating to rest and relax.

Property of the month

The Village Green at Chapel St Leonards cannot be overlooked. After a major re-vamp the area, designed to represent a ship, has a striking ship bell in the centre of the green which chimes every hour. With its well maintained lawns, flower beds and seating area it is a wonderful place to sit and watch the world go by. Solar powered lighting completes the scheme giving a colourful display during the night using the energy it stored during the many sunny days. In August the Village Green will be the venue of a “musical event” sponsored by the Parish Council which will see a number of bands performing in the open air.

Gunby Hall situated on the A158 Gunby roundabout and set in an estate of some 1500 acres belonging to the National Trust is a magnificent structure surrounded by several acres of walled gardens. Built by Sir William Massingberd in 1700 the Hall and gardens are open to the public at various times throughout the year giving access to the ground floor and basement of the Hall, its Gardens and Church. Several exhibitions are on display including the Field Marshall Montgomery – Massingberd’s War Experiences and The Massingberd Papers Exhibitions.

Just over from the sea and from the beach is Queens Park in Mablethorpe Queens Park has Open Grass Areas with Plants, Flowers and Shrubs, Childrens Play Areas and Amusements, Water Play Park including Boating Lake and Paddling Pool, Bowling Green, Putting Green and Crazy Golf, Tennis Courts and Small Miniature Railway. There is also a Cafe, Good sized Car Park, Public Toilets and Childrens Changing Facilities.

In Cleethorpes parallel to the promenade and beach, just past the Pier, is a wonderful walkway known as the 'Pier Gardens'. This delightful haven contains all the features of a park, with benches to rest and admire the views across the Humber. There is also a crazy-golf course to amuse granddad and young children, several snack shops, a children's indoor play area including a bowling alley, and an aesthetic artificial waterfall which is floodlit at night. You can walk south towards Ross Castle, or mount the (many) steps to gain access to the castle

Also in Cleethorpes is the Boating Lake next to Cleethorpes Local Nature Reserve. There are two main lakes with a connecting channel. The lakes are surrounded by amenity grass, ideal for picnics. The north lake is open for fishing and is used by a model boat association. Set in the middle of this lake is an illuminated fountain. At the northern most tip of the lake is an open air paddling pool. The south lake is open for the hire of rowing boats and pedalows in the summer season. A waterfall cascades from one of the islands. Cleethorpes Discovery Centre is set between the two lakes. The centre hosts art exhibitions and has a café. Outside, to the rear of the centre is a sand pit play area. There is a small zoo in the lakes area, called Jungle World.
